I can't say whether it's easy or not, I haven't lived elsewhere to know. But I think the environment I'm in right now is generally pretty alright! I'm pretty much happy with my current group of peers & friends.
I made a point to stay AWAY from the church after sticking with christians for so long (dad's a pastor), and all I can say is this: for the few people you find who are "tolerant" of your orientation in church, you'll find a ton of others outside of church who are ACCEPTING.
